Free Journal Entry #1:
1) Some tide-pools are disconnected from the ocean, others had water flowing in and out of them caused by waves.
2) All tide-pools range in size and shape.
3) Inhabitants: All sizes of fish from a 1/4 inch to two 2 inches, small crabs, sea snails of all sizes, hermit crabs.
4) The hermit crabs were fitting (or in competition with each other in their own habitat (or tide-pool).
5) In each habitat it's like a whole little world (ecosystem) in this tiny puddle of water. Each fish is striving to live and is competing for food all the time.
6) The color ranges of the fish that I saw were blacks, grays and greens.
7) When approaching tide-pools the fish would dart into cracks and holes in the tide-pool.
8) Different types of seaweeds were floating in the tide-pools.
9) Different types of sea algae were growing on the the rocks in the tide-pools.
10) Some tide-pools had lower water levels than others, due to water evaporation, evidenced by dried water lines (that were visible).
I believe that this site will be a good place to study for the rest of the semester because it's close to where I live and I think tide pools are good ecosystems to observe.
